This Guy Is Amazing

So, this Ocracoke guy who I mentioned earlier, Maria & I just LOVE his blog.  I wish we had visited his shop before, we definitely will after this but, it’s insane.  Check it out (here is the link once more: http://villagecraftsmen.blogspot.com), it will make you seriously miss this place.  This life is so ideal… ahh, but enough of that.  I wanted to make sure you all checked out a particular newsletter article by this man found here.  It’s very interesting, and if you read it all the way through, that last paragraph is just one that gets to you like no other.   The Village Craftsman writes, “If you value your peace of mind, think twice before considering a move to Ocracoke. Or maybe I should say, if you value your peace of mind, move here, take off your shoes, relax, and forget about bureaucracies and all of those other “benefits” of the world out there. You’ll live longer.”  Ah.  Man.  I love, love, love, LOVE that paragraph.  Makes you really think doesn’t it?

It will probably be slightly slow posting for awhile… I’m currently on the hunt for a new job and starting school so I just have like next to no time on my hands until things settle down a little, which is kind of agravating to me because I just want to make this everything I know it can be, but I have no time to do so.  Ah well, I know I will find time sooner or later.  Don’t give up on me.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Hatemail

^ Enough said. I got called “a hater”, heh. I know, in itself that amused me too. Anyway, the only question I have is if these “attacks” are such a serious problem, why are their not park rangers seriously monitoring the marked areas? What good does closing more beach and angering hundreds of people solve? The birds eggs are still getting bashed in, maybe something should be done about that? It’s funny to associate the people who want to allow ORV access with bird egg smashers… especially considering that every flyer and anything having to do with the cause strictly makes sure to point out that VANDALISM IS NOT OKAY. Heck, even I pointed that out several times. Why would we condone such behavior out of these “uneducated morons?” It results in more of our beaches being closed down so clearly this is not something I am going around urging people to do? I’m not really sure what the rest of what was commented to me meant because it was a little mixed up. Anyway, I just wanted to clarify that if a public beach that has been this way for years… is all closed up, but low and behold – there are oodles of birds & other wildlife!!!!! – tourists will not come. I can tell you right now why 99.9% of tourists go to the beach in the first place – it’s a beach. Tourists = a big hunk of revenue. I just wanted to clear one thing up that I don’t think a lot of people understand. People who want to keep the beaches open to ORV access & swimming & “jet skis & wannabe monster trucks”, don’t want to kill the birds, don’t want to drive around over the dunes and destroy all the plants, etc. Everyone wants Hatteras Island to say in good condition, but erosion is a HUGE (nearly unavoidable) problem around the whole country – 1 (which, is not even why so many parts of the beach keep closing), and 2 – there needs to be an equal balance between wildlife & humans. I mean, for God’s sakes, delaying the building of a new bridge because it cuts through a bird habitat? TEN THOUSAND PEOPLE CROSS THAT BRIDGE PER DAY IN THE SUMMER… and all of you against building the bridge are one of them at some point in time. So how are you going to feel when it collapses and your car is driving across it, or what about when it collapses and you are stuck on the island and a hurricane is on it’s way. Who’s in trouble now? I think people’s lives are more important than one particular wildlife area of which the wildlife will come back/can be found other places/aren’t all endangered.

Anyway, that’s all the blabs I have for today. Work is killing me, so I’ve had next to no time. However, I am going to soon be posting, I’m going home tomorrow which means for the next 3 days or so, I’ll be more relaxed, have more time, and most of all, won’t be working. So expect something by the end of the week. Thanks for being patient.

There’s Never A Wrong Time For This

There’s Never A Wrong Time Or Place To Support Our Troops

A Soldier

There is discipline in A Soldier
you can see it when he walks,
There is honor in A Soldier
you hear it when he talks.
There is courage in A Soldier
you can see it in his eyes,
There is loyalty in A Soldier
that he will not compromise.
There is something in A Soldier
that makes him stand apart,
There is strength in A Soldier
that beats from his heart.
A Soldier isn’t a title any man
can be hired to do,
A Soldier is the soul of that man
buried deep inside of you.
A Soldier’s job isn’t finished after
an 8 hour day or a 40 hour week,
A Soldier is always A Soldier
even while he sleeps.
A Soldier serves his country first
and his life is left behind,
A Soldier has to sacrifice what
comes first in a civilian’s mind.
If you are civilian -
I am saying this to you…..
next time you see A Soldier
remember what they do.
A Soldier is the reason our land
is ‘Home of the free’,
A Soldier is the one that is brave
protecting you and me.
If you are A Soldier -
I am saying this to you…..
Thank God for EVERY SOLDIER
Thank God for what YOU do!
-Unknown

It Is The Soldier
“It is the soldier, not the president who gives us democracy.
It is the soldier, not the congress who takes care of us.
It is the soldier, not the reporter who has given us freedom of the press.
It is the soldier, not the poet who has given us freedom of speech.
It is the soldier, not the campus organizer who has given us the freedom to demonstrate.
And it is the soldier, who salutes the flag; who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, that allows the protester to burn the flag.”
-Father Dennis O’Brien, USMC Chaplin”

the following are tearjerkers, and not for the weak of heart; but to be honest, i cry either way…

Toby Keith – American Soldier

Tim McGraw – If You’re Readin’ This

Trace Adkins – Arlington

Chely Wright – Bumper Of My SUV

Darryl Worley – Have You Forgotten

Darryl Worley – I Just Came Back From A War

David Ball – Riding With Private Malone

John Michael Montgomery – Letters From Home

Brad Paisley & Allison Kraus – Whiskey Lullaby

“Where The Stars & Stripes & Eagle Fly”
I pledge allegiance to this flag
And if that bothers you, well that’s too bad
But if you got pride and you’re proud you do
Hey, we could use some more like me and you
Where the stars and stripes and the eagle fly
-Aaron Tippin

Marine Prayer

Oh, Lord, please keep my Marine tonight,
Close by Your guiding hand of might.
Give him the strength to carry on
When all is dark and hope is gone.
Help him to trust and have no fear
For You are watching, ever near.
Let him know he’s not alone;
Your light will always lead him home.
He’s rough and tough-no emotions show-
But, God, he’s just a boy, you know.
He claims the title and wears it proud;
Says he’s the best and says it loud.
And though someday he’ll guard Your heights,
Lord, please bring him safely home tonight.

Work… sucks.

(the following is an excerpt from a recent google talk conversation)

Maria
ouch! yes, you need an office job, pronto

Jessie
back sorry
i have been so tired i haven’t even had a chance to update

Maria
well, you are still pretty consistent
even if you update like twice a week, ‘m sure you’ll still keep people’s interest

jmsee1789
my schedule is so whack
who schedules you till 11:30 then makes you go in at 7am
with my sleep that’s like sayign wel lmaybe you can take an hour nap or so

Maria
ugh, that’s just cruel, i’d be exhausted too
what jerks

jmsee1789
yeah my sleep is super messed up right now i just like sat down to watch a movie but fell asleep and then woke up like in 35 mins and my eyes are dry and bloodshot and i feel like crap
lol

Maria
i hope they get you on a more regular schedule for school
if you are still working there

jmsee1789
i decided i’m gonna try
M W F
anytime after 5
could be like 5-12 though
but as long as i do nothing T & T
and then either S or S but no 7am shifts lol

Maria
yeah, that way you can do errands, sleep in…

jmsee1789
so M W F S/S
should stlil be at lest 20 hours

Maria
yeah, at least

So that’s all I have for now for you guys, terribly sorry. Work is seriously kicking me in the butt. I hate my job. I have to get out. I’ve been in the same business for 3 years and it’s ridiculous that I can’t find a better job. Even running the office would seem like a better position but I have to at the same time supervise, and continuously have to get out there and open up a stupid register and fake being nice to people. Here’s some more conversation.

Jessie
they have this new thing
where they are wanting you to greet every person
who walks in the store
no matter what you are doing

Maria
ughhhhh
its not walmart

Jessie
and if we dont all start doing it more
we’ll get written up
i HATE it
i know
and i’m supposed to do it more cuz i’m “in the office”
they even may start making people stand at the door
and there are 2 doors
what a waste of hours
and like.

Maria
you are supposed to say it from behind the counter?

Jessie
yeah
when you’re bagging
ringing up orders
talking to the other customers
you haev to acknowledge every peron
person*
we are rated super low in like customer satisfaction or something?
idk what kind of dumbbutt people like call in

Maria
yeah, that’s pretty lame. and customer’s may not liek it

Jessie
and give opinions about how they don’t feel they are in a “friendly neighborhood environment”

Maria
i wouldn’t
because then you have to say something back

Jessie
i wouldn’t either that’s what i don’t get
it’s uncomfortable for everyone

Maria
yes

Jessie
if they want to talk they can call a telemarketer or something

Maria
no one REALLY loves to grocery shop, so we want to get in and out without distraction

jmsee1789
i know i said hi to soemone earlier and htey like
glared at me

Maria
haha
thats me

jmsee1789
i wanted to say listen up buddy i dont’ wanna be here anymore than you so smile so i dont’ get my butt fired for not being friendly

Maria
yeah, that’s such a dumb rule

So yeah, if you call in to complain about your local grocery store, seriously, get a life. It’s easy to complain when you don’t have to do it, isn’t it? I seriously, SERIOUSLY feel for those people at the Food Lion in Avon, who have to deal with the crazy crowds every weekend. Most of them are sweet foreigners too and they have to work so hard. And tourists can be SO SO SO SO mean, people who shop in grocery stores just generally are mean. Everyone should work at a grocery store at least once in your life being a cashier, they are not like any other job (cuz I’ve worked at a restaurant and a clothing retailer, no place is quite as rude). If they did, I bet your bottom dollar they would never be rude again.

Anyway, I didn’t really mean to make this post a complaint post but whatever, just wanted to explain further why I’ve had a hard time getting work on this done. Don’t worry, I’m getting out of this soon and then even with school I’ll have time to work on this cuz it’s something I take a lot of pride in. I’m good for my word so, like I said, promise some new stuff is coming soon!

Anyway, I reckon my main lesson of the day is, next time you are in Avon Food Lion or Conner’s Supermarket, etc., please, please, PLEASE don’t be rude to the employees! They are working their butts off getting paid next to nothing just so you can buy your little fruity cocktails to sip on the deck of your beach house. There is nothing wrong with that, no, but trust me, they would rather be doing the same, but without them, you couldn’t… so keep that in mind.

Oh, btw, Word Press formatting is driving me…… insane. Argh.

Busy Weekend As Usual

So, I lied about posting things this weekend. Lol, well not really, it’s just I didn’t have a chance to finish everything. Friday, I went swimming with my best friend & my cousin at this little swimming hole back in the woods. I hadn’t really ever been there to swim before, just around it due to it’s popularity as a hunting spot. It was a blast. I haven’t really done a lot of “fun” things this summer. Just moving, getting settled, working, trying to cook, buying groceries, laundry; you know, that stuff that you’d rather NOT do. Hmm. It’s a shame I had to come home Sunday. Had I not had to work Monday, I would have stayed an extra day in VA & went swimming again, because we seriously had an awesome time, and then it was also fun at the fair later that night; though it wasn’t my favorite trip to the fair this week, it was fun since I saw a lot of people I haven’t seen in awhile. Anyway, that was my fun day so sorry. No posts for this, ha. I don’t have them very often, well, it was the funnest day I’ve had all summer (other than all days while I was at the OBX back in June of course!!!) So yeah, that’s my excuse for Friday’s lack of updates.

Saturday would be this – went to my grandmas for the day to celebrate mom & dad’s birthday which both fell in July. It was fun to see my family one last time too, it’s sort of bittersweet though. Sunday, I slept as late as I could, showered, dyed my hair, and left at 3pm ish. Got home finally by 8:30 after making a stop in Skippers, and at work to get my schedule. I work everyday this week except Thursday. I was going to get my roommate to go down to the OBX with me Thursday but I found out we CAN’T go Thursday – my only day off – cuz the apartment is getting fumigated and we are supposed to be here to remove stuff etc. Is that some bull or what? Idc. I am going one last time before school starts, I swear this.

Anyway, I work a lot of random shifts this week so I may be tired, but I promise to post the things I’ve been working for sometime. Just wanted to give ya’ll and update to where I was at.

On final note, thanks so much for the comments I’ve been getting! I love to hear from people who love the Outer Banks as much as I do! It’s so exciting for me. For anyone who went down there this weekend for the week, have a blast, and think of me sitting here getting my apartment fumigated while you’re fishing and swimming and eating the best food in the world! =P OH! Also, I ordered a bunch of my digital cam pictures to be printed (from Snapfish when it was 1cent a photo weekend), and they all came in! I’m so excited. I’m sending some to my mom, she wants to make me something for my birthday. I love really cute picture frames and layouts and she is big into scrapbooking and does and amazing job at it! I can’t wait. Here’s a couple pictures for you to enjoy since I haven’t posted anything.

And in case you were wondering,
1.) Pool view from Great S’Cape, Buxton, NC
2.) Pamlico Sound at Evening, Buxton
3.) The Point, Buxton
4.) Ferry to Ocracoke
5.) Ocracoke Island Lighthouse
6.) I Rock.
7.) Avon Fishing Pier
8.) Cape Hatteras Lighthouse at Night, Buxton.
9.) Waves crashing during Tropical Storm Beryl, 2006, Avon.
10.) A beautiful as always, OBX sunset, Avon.
11.) Pamlico Sound at Day, Buxton.
12.) Avon beach from view of Avon Fishing Pier.

From One OBX Lover To Another

I’m back from WV! I guess I had some fun with my family and at the fair and all, but I’m slightly worn out, lol.  Anyway, when I got back, I was so excited because I found out I’m actually reaching SOMEONE out there, which was, pretty awesome, I wasn’t sure I was, lol.  From one OBX lover to another, thanks so much Shellie for the AWESOME COMMENT, I feel there are people out there who actually share my obsession!! Haha.  I wanted to answer a few things in your comment… Buxton sound is definitely amazing so I’m so excited for you, you are going to see the most beautiful views!!!  I want to go back so bad!!  Also, about renewing your vows, that was so neat to read.  Canadian Hole is beautiful, but I had no idea people ever used it for more than watersports!!  I was in a wedding once on the beach and I mean, what spot is really more romantic than the OBX.  I love your residency dream, I can never understand who would go there and not want to spend the rest of their life on the island??  I sure hope you end up moving there one day, I’ve always wanted to open up a cute giftshop, lol, how about you?  Also, any fishing tips you’d like to share, I’d love them!  Fishing is one of my favorite activities and I know a lot of new visitors would probably rather know tips off hand than waste a few years trying to find the best spots.  I’ve never eaten at SmackNalley’s but I’ve seen it advertised a lot.  Next time I’m in Ocracoke, I’m giong to definitely check it out.  We usually don’t steer far from Captain Ben’s because we love it so much, have you tried it there?  But I love to try new places so I’m going to definitely check it out next time I get the chance.  The water veiw would be lovely, I haven’t eaten at a restaurant with a waterview since Soundside became Sandbar & Grille.  Also, Bubba’s is a great one!  I’ll have to do a review on it, I kind of forgot about it since I don’t usually eat there, however, they did cater the wedding I went to and I enjoyed the food.  Kids also seem to love it so I know it’s a great family place.

Finally, I love your idea about the road.  It is definitely a trip that is unique from any other.  460 (assuming you went that way?) is the neatest road, and there are so many unique features of the way from produce shops to OBX billboards!  Thanks for the idea, I’m definitely going to do that next.  Anyway, thanks so much for your comment!  I appreciate it greatly, I love knowing there are other people out there who visit the OBX and love it to death.  It’s so exciting you are going soon, I hope you have a great trip!  Make sure to let me know if you have any new recommendations.  I hope the weather’s great and you have a blast!  Also, thanks for spreading the word, I’m trying really hard to get this out there, and it’s been a slight struggle, but I’m trying!!!  I’m giong to get right on your suggestions, they’re great ones and are much appreciated!  Again, have a good trip, and thanks!!!

Anyway, for anyone else, I hope you find all of my information to be helpful as well and keep checking back, I update as frequently as possible!  Therre may not be a whole lot up tonight because it’s been a busy past three days, but I’ll be working on some pieces to post up here by the weekend.  For anyone goign to the OBX anytime soon, YOU’RE SO LUCKY!!! HAVE A BLAST AND ENJOY EVERY MINUTE OF IT!!!  I’ve never been on a vacation that has gone by quicker, or taken so long to arrive.  All of this OBX talk is making me miss it sooo badly!  I hope everyone has a great weekend, and count on a bunch of new stuff to be put up soon!

Oh, one additional note. If anyone would like to drop an e-mail my way, feel free!  You know I love OBX chatting!  You can reach me on here, on my Knol, or at thecalmofastorm@gmail.com.  And on the FINAL note, Maria recently showed me the blog of a local man who lives in Ocracoke and pretty much posts daily about his life on the island.  He has a lot of family there and a gift shop that I can’t wait to visit next year when we go again.  To get a great perspective of real island life, make sure to check his blog out, http://villagecraftsmen.blogspot.com/, but I warn you, if you miss the OBX terribly, this will make you sad!  He describes the ocean in such a beautiful manner… the information is great though, so Maria & I have just been reading it, trying not to get too depressed.  Oh man, it’s really starting to sink in that there is a whole year until the next visit.  I don’t care though, now that I live close enough, I’m going to start making day trips.  I definitely need them to keep my hopes up!

THREE NEW REVIEWS & etc.

So, I did exactly as I said, and reviewed at least 3 more restaurants.  Am still in the process of the others I mentioned (Toppers), and I think I’m adding Dirty Dicks to the list.  Then I’ll definitely start some shops because I don’t have any yet.  Keep checking back, I’m working on it.  They actually take quite awhile to do!

Other than that, I am going to WV till Thursday, so you won’t see anything new here till then.  I’ll probably add a few more things tonight since I don’t go to sleep till like 3am at the earliest, but I’ve been editing pieces, and writing reviews all night so I need a bit of a break.

Wanted to note that not all of the restaurants I have rated now are ones I have been to recently so I REALLY NEED OUTSIDE INPUT.  Your reviews won’t go unnoticed if you take the time.  All you have to do is rate each category out of 10 and the ranking will be included.  If I can’t quite remember a place, as long as I liked it, I probably will give it straight 8.5’s or 9’s, but until I can go back, the input from those who have been there recently will be very helpful!  My mission is well underway and I hope to get this going real soon.

Upcoming Features include more reviews of course, and hopefully way more picture galleries, I take 350-800 pictures each year I go since I got my first digital camera and that has been since about 2004 I believe, so I have plenty!  I’m also going to try to make a couple top ten lists; I like lists.  Lol.  Stuff such as the top 10 things you should see before your week is over, the top ten places to fish, the top ten places to buy hermit crabs, anything like that.  Okay, maybe only 5 or so places sell them so the list could be a top 5, but it’s good to have lists you can specifically find information about what you are looking for.  If you have any ideas or requests for another how to guide (such as the knol I made [and I hopefully will be writing a couple more of those soon], or any type of list, etc., PLEASE DON’T HESITATE TO ASK!  Like I’ve stated, I love to talk about the Outer Banks.  =D  Anyway, that’s all for tonight unless I post another review so, see you Thursday!

Captain’s Table Review

Captain’s Table :: 93/100 (based on 1 review)

Restaurant Picture

General Information

  • Located: Avon, NC
  • Hours: Dinner starts at 5pm
  • Price Range: Typical $18-$25ish
  • Type: Family Restaurant

Food Information

  • Selection of Turf: Yes
  • Pre-Meal Selection: I don’t remember because I haven’t been here for a year.
  • Entrees come with: Salad & side I do believe.

My Experience

  • I Got: Last time I went, I probably got fried clams, because that used to be all I ate, but I didn’t go this year so I don’t remember.  It was not bad though at all.
  • Wait Time: The wait time isn’t bad at all.  They can usually quickly get you a table and food comes out fast.

Actual Review

  • Cleanliness: 9/10 Tidy
  • Service: 9/10 Friendly
  • Wait Time: 9/10 Normal/Acceptable
  • Family-Oriented: 10/10 Everyone will like this place in general
  • Price: 9/10 Average for the area
  • Taste: 9/10 Good/average food.  Nothing stood out, but nothing is gross or disappointing
  • Atmosphere: 10/10 This place used to be called The Tides which was one of my FAVORITES OF ALL TIME RESTAURANTS.  The new owner, however, is probably more on their feet now then the first year I went.  It is still lovely inside, decorated, and clean.  I was most happy to find they still have the TYPES OF SEASHELLS YOU WILL FIND ON THE OBX placemats.  I remember them from when I went there as a kid, being 6 or 7.  Kids will love that.  Adults will love it too.
  • Location: 9.5/10 No view or anything, but it slightly off the road.  The sign is too big to miss the place, however, it’s just nice that it seems secluded.  The parking is excellent.
  • Variety: 9/10 Many options for the seafood lover and hater
  • Portion Size: 9.5/10 A lot of food, which typically is the case for OBX Restaurants
  • Overall Rating: 93/100

In conclusion,

  • I would recommend this restaurant: Yes.  This is a very nice place to try with a variety of foods and a typical family atmosphere that you will enjoy.  If you are looking for a setting though that is more for a particular age group, or a lot of crazy choices to try on the menu, this isn’t the place for you.  This is a very traditional seafood restaurant with good food.
  • You should definitely try their:  Hushpuppies are always good here.  Their fried shrimp is also very tasty.
  • Other comments/notes: n/a

Froggy Dog Review

Froggy Dog :: 85/100 (based on 1 review)

Restaurant Picture

General Information

  • Located: Avon, NC
  • Hours: Breakfast starts at 7, lunch is also served, and dinners start at 5pm
  • Price Range: Typical for the area… I would say about $15-$25ish
  • Type: Family Restaurant

Food Information

  • Selection of Turf: Yes
  • Pre-Meal Selection: Unsure as I haven’t been there for 2 years
  • Entrees come with: choice of two sides (such as salad, potato, coleslaw, etc).

My Experience

  • I Got: Last time I went, I went for lunch, and I was not very impressed.  I haven’t been back since to give a full updated dinner review, but I would warn you.  The tea tastes like bread/yeast and the bread tastes like play dough.  This is what I remember.  I also got shrimp that was just average.
  • It Cost: $20.00ish probably with tip & drink
  • Wait Time: Service was not bad/slow, but we did have to wait about 10 minutes for a table.  They have a nice gift shop, however, so the time will go by faster if you peruse that.

Actual Review

  • Cleanliness: 9/10 Tidy, but not perfect
  • Service: 9/10 Acceptable
  • Wait Time: 8.5/10 Had to wait even at lunch, even though it didn’t seem crowded.
  • Family-Oriented: 9/10 Kids probably will enjoy this
  • Price: 8/10 Average, but considering I didn’t like the food, it wasn’t worth the price
  • Taste: 6/10 I was very disappointed, because I used to LOVE this place
  • Atmosphere: 8.5/10 It used to be nicer but it still is a pretty nice looking place… the gift shop is nice too.
  • Location: 9.5/10 Parking is good and it’s easy to find.  The view isn’t anything special, there isn’t one.
  • Variety: 8.5/10 Many options but not all of it looks appetizing.
  • Portion Size: 9/10 Average.
  • Overall Rating: 85/100

In conclusion,

  • I would recommend this restaurant: Eh, this is a toughie.  I used to ADORE this place, the food was great.  After Isabel, however, new owners took over.  It may be because they were just getting on track that this wasn’t very impressive, but it seems to be a favorite among some people.  Kids will like it, and it may be worth trying again, I would like to one day.  It is, however, for sale, and so a new owner should be another issue again very soon, so it’s hard to tell.  Try this if you wish.  I will definitely try it once it gets another new owner.
  • You should definitely try their: n/a
  • Other comments/notes: Menu Found Here

Captain Ben’s Review

Captain Ben’s :: 98/100 (based on 1 review)

Captain Bens, Ocracoke Island

General Information

  • Located: Ocracoke, NC
  • Hours:11:30am – 9:00pm (lunch & dinner)
  • Price Range: Entrees are about $8:00 – $15.00 (with a few pricey seafood options of course)
  • Type: Family Restaurant

Food Information

  • Selection of Turf: Many, this is like a burger/sandwich place
  • Pre-Meal Selection: Only if you order an appetizer
  • Entrees come with: Some come with fries but make sure you ask because some of them don’t, and some that don’t say they do, still come with them.  A tad confusing but it’s easy to ask and cheap to add.

My Experience

  • I Got: Sweet tea, a burger, and fries.  It was just a plain old burger but it came with the works, onions, mayo (on the side), pickles, lettuce, etc.  It was SO good, it didnt have a funny taste or anything.  The meat was cooked and it was very large.  It was one of the best meals I had all week.  I’ve also had there a chicken sandwich with like really spicy sauce on it, but I can’t remember what it was called, since it was 2 years ago.
  • It Cost: $15.00ish with my drink and tip. I think.
  • Wait Time: We went around lunchtime but it wasn’t busy.  We got a seat right away and it was a very nice one in a corner surrounded by decorations.  We were starving and the wait was only maybe 10 minutes for the food after we ordered, but there was no wait for a table.

Actual Review

  • Cleanliness: 9.5/10 This place never is really, “dirty”, although their bathrooms aren’t the best, but they may be some of the only bathrooms on the island so use them while you are there!
  • Service: 10/10 We’ve never had a bad waiter, the waitress you usually have is an Ocracoke resident and has been for years.  She loves to tell stories and just is the most friendly person ever.  Occasionally it gets busy and we’ve had an instance where one order was forgot, but they were very helpful about getting it out to us quickly.
  • Wait Time: 9/10 Ocracoke can be very busy, or very empty.  It’s a win-lose situation, it all depends on the crowd, but the servers are always quick and efficient
  • Family-Oriented: 10/10 Something for everyone.
  • Price: 10/10 Average for the area, but cheaper because it has things like sandwiches/burgers.
  • Taste: 10/10 Always one of my FAVORITE meals.  The food is just amazing… the fries, wonderful, and the tea delicious.
  • Atmosphere: 10/10 I love the decorations and atmosphere.  It’s slightly dark, but not like a bar or anything.  It’s really neat, and a lot of LARGE beachy pieces.  You know where you are.
  • Location: 9.5/10 One of the first ones you come to, and very easy to find.  Parking is slim, but that’s pretty much the island itself.  You feel very comfortable about going inside.
  • Variety: 10/10 This place offers every type of burger or sandwich under the sun.  It’s so hard to choose which one you want!
  • Portion Size: 10/10 Gives enough food to fully satisfy your hunger.
  • Overall Rating: 98/100

In conclusion,

  • I would recommend this restaurant: HEAVENS YES!  I love their food, we’ve been stopping there for 3 years when we come to Ocracoke and we are always satisfied.  The service and food is continuously good and it’s just another happy meal at the beach.
  • You should definitely try their: Burgers.  If you are hesitant about ordering meat out, don’t be here.  It is cooked without being tough.  It’s great… and make sure you get fries on the side, their fries are awesome.
