I wanted to dedicate a whole page to the information about the Beach Closures. For those of you who have been to the OBX in the past few months, you probably have heard of the closures by seeing bumper stickers, shirts, and store signs that urge everyone to help save our beaches. Now, I am not an expert at this category, and I don’t get all the new information right away – being as I am still 2 hours away – but I will try to keep this as updated as possible. Also, I may have some information incorrect, so if you know otherwise, please, inform me. This is all information I have researched, read about while I was there, and heard about by talking to a lot of locals. My main goal is to inform more and more people so the fight to save our beaches will be successful. It’s the cause that every local and visitor alike should have in common.
If you think that the beach closures could, may, or might affect you, as a tourist, you’re absolutely right. These closures are no longer just to keep ORV’s (off road vehicles) off the beaches anymore, the Audubon Society has every intention of denying beach access to EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US… “sunbathers, beach walkers, picnickers, shell collectors, and fisherman.” (Excerpt from a poster you can find in moth gift/tackle shops with facts about the beach closures). It doesn’t matter if you are a hardcore surfer, or just like to walk the beach at night, your access is in great danger. The locals can’t do it alone – this is going to take an army of true Outer Banks Lovers, and everyone of us who has ever been to the OBX has a duty and it is not one to be taken likely. Information on what you can do to help can be found below.
While at the beach, a particularly disturbing commercial came on that really makes you want to effect positive change, and I think everyone should watch it so I’m going to post it. It can also be found at the OBPA website which is listed at the bottom of this page. After the video, please check each category below to get the facts & more information.
If you would like more information about any of these topics, a number of places are trying to help, so please check out each and everyone of these websites.

don’t be a hater, we need to close access from morons who trash the beach and drive all over the nests, there have been 6 attacks on marked nests by uneducated morons, there are to many people on the obx and beach driving is a serious problem, if we want to preserve it try fighting for the environment and keeping it clean and healthy and then the beaches will stay open for recreating. not closed from pollution and moronic wreck less behavior
