Diamond Shoals Review

Diamond Shoals :: 89/100 (based on 2 reviews)

General Information

  • Located: Buxton, NC
  • Hours: Dinner starts at 5pm, they serve breakfast too. Open 10 – 7 according to their sign.
  • Price Range: Typical for the area… I would say about 20 average with some things as low as 10.99 to as expensive as 28.99 or so (steaks, etc).
  • Type: Family Restaurant

Food Information

  • Selection of Turf: Yes, many
  • Pre-Meal Selection: Hush puppies
  • Entrees come with: 2 sides including fries, mashed potatoes, baked potato, coleslaw, applesauce, or vegetable of the day. you can add a side salad from the “salad bar” (very small) to any entree instead of getting a side for under $2.00.

My Experience

  • I Got: Appetizer that was split among the family: Shark bites. It was insane, I’d never had shark before and thought I should try it. There were mixed reviews at the table… not cuz of the cooking, just because of the meat, but we all wanted to try them. They came fried like a mini fish stick with hot/texas pete dipping sauce. Good with tarter sauce & the hot sauce mixed. The main dish I got was a combo of sorts: fried crab cake & fried shrimp. My sides were french fries & coleslaw. The meal was delicious and the fries were good. Cole slaw was okay but not what I’m used to. Their sweet tea (which I got) was good without being salty tasting.
  • It Cost: $25.00ish with my part of the appetizer & tip.
  • Wait Time: not a bad wait time… refills were average, not constant, restaurant was not very crowded so the food came out relatively fast for a 10 person family

Actual Review

  • Cleanliness: 9/10 Tidy, but not crystal clear
  • Service: 8.5/10 Service was efficient but not always quick to refill
  • Wait Time: 9.5/10 No wait time, but we didn’t get the most preferable table when there were many available
  • Family-Oriented: 9.5/10 Children would love the aquariums,
  • Price: 8/10 More on the costly side, but still reasonable for the area
  • Taste: 9/10 The food is overall delicious
  • Atmosphere: 9/10 The atmosphere is cute but it is not overly beachy or anything; cute gift shop.
  • Location: 8.5/10 Easy to find, not overlooking water or anything, and accessible parking.
  • Variety: 8.5/10 There were a lot of options, the menu is very large… but a lot of the turf options (steak etc), are slightly pricey (which is to be expected of course)
  • Portion Size: 10/10 Definitely large portions, even the appetizer was enough to go around.
  • Overall Rating: 89.5/100

In conclusion,

  • I would recommend this restaurant: yes… lovely family restaurant with great choices and a high rating. you will enjoy this place and come back again.
  • You should definitely try their: shark bites if you are feeling adventurous… crabcakes or crab stuffed shrimp if you like spicy crabmeat. The hushpuppies are to die for.

  1. My Experience

    * I Got: 8 oz sirloin with mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables. The steak was cooked perfectly a medium-well. The mashed potatoes had a bit too much garlic and the vegetables were bland. The appetizers (shark bites and hush puppies) made up for the poor side items, however. Come for the hush puppies and nothing else really matters!
    *It Cost: $20ish
    *Wait Time: Were seated right away and the waistress was friendly and accurate. She didn’t check in on us often, but I prefer that.

    Actual Review

    * Cleanliness: 8/10 – Blinds were broken and some members of our party had to sit with the sun in their faces. Was not properly fixed when asked.
    * Service: 9/10 – Drinks were refilled on time, but waitress was not constantly hovering at our table.
    * Wait Time: 9.5/10 – Not a problem at all
    * Family-Oriented: 9.5/10 – Kids would love the aquariums – the one in the main dining room has an eel.
    * Price: 9/10 – Free hush puppies!
    * Taste: 8/10
    * Atmosphere: 9/10 – Again, the aquariums
    * Location: 8.5/10 – No spectacular views, but easy to find
    * Variety: 8.0/10 – Could use some more unique turf choices
    * Portion Size: 10/10 – I was stuffed!
    * Overall Rating: 88.5/100

    In conclusion,

    * Try the shark bites – even if you aren’t a seafood eater like me! The hush puppies are best thing about the restaurant and will have you going back.
